Storing Produce

Want to properly store your produce to enjoy the flavors of the season? Keep in mind we do not wash our produce to keep them fresher longer so before you eat give them a quick rinse!

Here is how we store our produce:

Storing Produce: List

Basil

Freshly cut stems and place in a jar of water and set out on counter in room air.

Bean

Store in your fridge crisper to use within a week.

Beets

Cut the greens off the beets and store them separately in a plastic bag in the fridge. The root of the beet without the greens will last for weeks if not months.

Bok Choy

Store in a plastic bag in your refrigerator, eat within one week. Wash before cooking.

Cabbage

Store whole in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Carrots

Cut tops off before storing in the refrigerator, tops can be used for pesto or dried and added to healthy shakes. Without their tops they can store in the refrigerator for weeks if not months but are sweeter and juicier the fresher they are.

Cucumber

Store cucumbers dry in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Eggplant

Store at room temperature and eat within a day or two. Eggplant can last up to a week in the fridge by wrapping it in a paper towel and placing it in an open bag.

Garlic

Garlic can be stored at room temperature for weeks, or even months.

Green Onion

Place in a breathable or loose plastic bag in the refrigerator to keep moist.

Head Lettuce

Store lettuce in your refrigerator in a plastic bag. Lettuce will last for up to a week but is best when eaten within a few days.

Kale

Dry kale and keep in a plastic bag in your refrigerator. You can also wrap kale in a layer of paper towels and store in a bag in your fridge crisper to avoid excess moisture.

Malabar Spinach

Store in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 5 days.

Place mint in a plastic bag in the fridge, leave bag open for air circulation.

Oregano

Use within 3 days by keeping it in a closed plastic bag in the fridge, or dry it for longer storage.

Okra

Store in a paper bag in the fridge, avoid moisture. Okra keeps for only 2-3 days so eat quickly.

Wash with water and remove excess moisture with a paper towel, use paper towel to wrap in and place in plastic or sealed container.

Pepper

Keep for about 5 days in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Potato

Store on a dark, dry place to prevent greening or rotting. If any potatoes are damaged use them within a couple days. Only wash when ready to eat.

Rhubarb

Wrap rhubarb in plastic and put in your refrigerator, don't wash until you are ready to use. May last up to one week in fridge.
